Yesterday I had a wild hair to hop on Mom and Dad’s Tennessee Walker they’ve had in the pasture for the last five years. Pollyanne has always been a friendly horse that loves attention and we’ve been talking about seeing how she would do for a long time. Someone told us she had been ridden before, but we didn’t have anything more to go on and it required a boost of placebo confidence to be the first one to see what she might do.
Coming back from RTTH has aggravated my patience while I wait for my horses to heal and become rideable again. So, with a clear blue sky, a cool spring breeze, and a pasture full of highlands I couldn’t resist seeing what might happen.
I grabbed a halter and lead rope, we made our way to a bucket, I was granted permission to come aboard, and without hesitation she was walking across the pasture with me being a slightly nervous passenger.
This was my first experience riding bareback and it was so much fun! It was also the first time I’ve ridden around cattle and I absolutely loved walking up next to our Angus and “inspecting” the herd while mounted on a horse.
Pollyanne would perk up her ears as we made our way to a few cows and then move them out of the way and we would go the next group.
I have always enjoyed standing in the pasture and watching the cows graze, but I have never has never been as enjoyable as it was sitting on a horse.
