For Christmas this year I got a Mecate Rein for Cowboy’s headstall. It’s a 22 foot rope that is divided between reins and a weighted tail for groundwork and a lead.
I was interested in part because I like how it looks but also in the practical form of having a lead rope always available.
That said, the lead rope isn’t practical when you don’t know how to ride and your horse starts walking as soon as you climb into the saddle 😂😅
As soon as I mounted I was fumbling with 22 feet of tangled rope and unable to find my reins to gain control of my wondering horse! It was another great reminder of how thankful I am to have an older and gentle horse!!
